Augusta, GAWashGuys have been eyeing the Augusta GA car wash market for quite a while and there are probably about 20 or hand car washes which are usually converted gas stations. In GA there is a lot of this style also in TX, SC, Northern FL, AL, MS and parts of TN, KY and WV. Here is the crème of the crop in Augusta this is a frontal view of the building a converted Wendy's Hamburger QSR. If you look at these two pictures the signage you will see a close up of their logo on the front of the building and Large sign proclaiming a Wednesday special price of under $10.00. The reason they call this place the Male Care is because of their revolutionary idea of combining three services in one place. Hair Cuts, Car Washing and Detailing and Dry Cleaning. They are right down the street from ASU. Augusta State university. Also in the town is August Tech, which means there is sufficient college labor and the book stores in town were packed with studying students.
What is so interesting about this company is that they found their way into the Entrepreneur Magazine Special Section on Entrepreneurs and new start-up franchises with high potential. Of course we went to check them out. They said in the article in January 2002, that they had one store this one pictured and planned to open 3 more this year and have 50 within two years all franchised. As you can see from this side view they have not washed a car in a while and the anchor tenant in their shopping center BK's, the commercial real estate broker locked them into a 15 year lease and business is really slow there. Look at the awning in the picture. It is faded and in need of a wash, perhaps they should call the Awning Wash Guys. In the article in Entrepreneur Magazine they said they were doing $200,000.00 a year and re-investing although if you look at the front of the building they obviously forgot to pay the gardener with their incredible profits. Anytime the Car Wash Guys see merging competition, you can bet we will be there to check them out and see if they were for real or not.
